LifeSPAN Friends

The organization ended. The relationships didn't.

For many years, LifeSPAN, a nonprofit organization, brought together people with disabilities, their families, and friends to build relationships and communities of support.

When LifeSPAN closed in 2022, many of us wanted to stay connected. LifeSPAN Friends grew out of that wish.

Today, we continue to get together, enjoy one another's company, welcome new connections, and nurture friendships that have developed over the years.

I help coordinate and sustain LifeSPAN Friends by staying in touch with people, organizing gatherings, sharing invitations, and encouraging others to bring their own ideas and activities to the community.

My role is part organizer, part facilitator, and part participant. I help create opportunities for people to come together, while recognizing that the relationships themselves belong to everyone.

Getting Together

Sometimes it's a potluck, a holiday party, a ballgame, or a gathering on Zoom. Sometimes people make plans with one another outside of organized events.

The activities themselves aren't the whole point. They're opportunities to see old friends, get to know someone new, have fun, and keep relationships alive.

LifeSPAN Friends Parent Circle

We also bring parents and family members together for occasional conversations about the questions that arise as our loved ones grow older and our own lives change.

We talk about relationships, planning for the future, sharing responsibilities, and who will be there for the people we love.

The Parent Circle is a chance to learn from one another, ask questions, and think together about what comes next.
